Aleksander Kostopoulos artist

Aleksander Kostopolous is known as one of northern Norway's most active musicians. Primarily for his drumming and percussion with artists like Mari Boine, Adjagas, Moddi, Marthe Valle, Isak and the rock duo Pil & Bue. Now, for the first time, Kostopoulos also takes on song writing and vocals with the solo debut "Faleo". When a drummer goes solo you'd might expect the rythmic element to be explored further, but the use of samples and falsetto vocals pulls Kostopoulos in a more melodic and atmospheric direction. Sigur Rós, Bon Iver, Biosphere and DJ Shadow can be mentioned as important musical influences. When it comes to genre, Kostopoulos is somewhere between ambient, indie, hiphop, pop and jazz. With "Faleo" the drummer also helps widen the perception we have of the "singer/songwriter". Seven out of nine tunes are recorded live in studio with Kostopoulus doing samples, drums and vocals, and this is also how the songs are to be presented live. The vocals are in northern norwegian, but the titles however, do not consist of recognizable words. According to himself this is because the emotions behind the music cannot be described with known words. - "Faleo" is a very personal album. If I'd been able to explain it with words, recording it would have been unnecessary. I hope some of this is audible for the listener. The album is recorded in Kysten Studio in Tromsø, produced by Rudi Nikolaisen, mixed by Ariel Joshua Sivertsen and mastered by Brad Blackwood
