OSLO KAMMERAKADEMI PLAYS MOZART! Oslo Kammerakademi, led by Oslo Philharmonic’s principal oboist David Friedemann Strunck, presents on this, its fourth CD release, chamber music by Mozart for wind octet. Mozart’s two serenades constitute today the very core of the wide-ranging repertoire that exists for "Harmonie" ensemble. "Harmoniemusik" had become fashionable. Wind players performed for feasts and banquets and in more intimate settings for the Emperor in Vienna and for royalty and the nobility across Central Europe. "Harmoniemusik" could be heard in parks and gardens, streets and byways. In Vienna, Mozart eagerly embraced this opportunity. No one could write for winds like him! Mozart’s two serenades were composed in a turbulent period of his life when he had to curry favour with Vienna’s elite, having received the oft cited “kick in the backside” by the Archbishop of Salzburg. Not long after the "Kaiserliche Harmonie- und Tafelmusik" saw the light of day in Vienna in 1782, Mozart was ready and waiting with the two serenades! Transcriptions of symphonies and operas for this instrumentation were also enormously popular. Mozart even had plans to arrange "The Abduction from the Seraglio" for "Harmonie" ensemble before, as he said, “anyone else does it.” Joseph Triebensee, oboist and musical director for the Prince of Liechtenstein’s "Harmonie" ensemble, adapted ca. 80 operas for the "Harmonie" setting. This recording by Oslo Kammerakademi features the ensemble’s trademark — playing that is virtuosic and passionate combined with historically informed performance. Oslo Kammerakademi released its first CD recording, "Beethoven for Wind Octet" (LWC1036) in 2012, and it was followed in 2014 by "Leipzig!" (LWC1058). The ensemble’s third album, "the first beauty" (LWC1093), completed a trilogy of "Harmoniemusik" from three eras. All three releases have been very well-received both at home and abroad. Among other things, BBC Music Magazine rewarded the debut album five out of five stars.
